Since 2006, with the continuous production of plants under construction in China, the acetone production capacity will have a big growth in the near future, and the self-sufficiency rate is expected to increase greatly; at the same time, the internationally-built and expanded acetone plants are almost all concentrated. In Asia, there will be an excess of acetone supply in 2007. To this end, industry experts called for: acetone expansion to consider surrounding factors to prevent overheating. And put forward suggestions: The acetone new device adopts the cumene production process to avoid the market risk of simply producing acetone; at the same time, in addition to supporting the construction of the bisphenol A device, it is also necessary to consider supporting the construction of a methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) device. To integrate the production of acetone and its downstream products.

The industrial production of acetone in China began in the 1950s. In 1995, China's acetone production capacity was only 83,000 tons, but in 2005 it had increased to 417,000 tons; in 1995, China's acetone production was only 87,300 tons, compared with about 280,000 tons in 2005. From 2000 to 2005, the average annual growth rate of acetone production in China was approximately 17.5%. Among them, there are four production processes using cumene production, with a total production capacity of 312,000 tons/year, accounting for 74.8% of the total acetone production capacity.

At present, China’s acetone project to be built and under construction includes: Hong Kong’s construction of a 76,000-ton/year plant in Panyu, Guangdong Province, which will be put into production in July this year. The company also plans to build a new 76,000-ton/year plant in Changzhou; PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical The company plans to expand its existing production capacity to 100,000 tons/year; Sinopec Yanzhou Refinery, Fujian Refinery, Shenyang Chemical Group, and Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical Company also plan to build a new acetone production facility. In 2006, China's acetone production capacity will reach 547,000 tons, and in 2010 it will reach about 750,000 tons.

Acetone is one of the main raw materials for producing bisphenol A. At present, the production capacity of bisphenol A in China is 55,000 tons/year, and the output is about 40,000 tons/year (excluding Bayer's new installation). In 2005, the import volume of bisphenol A and its main downstream products (epoxy resin and polycarbonate) reached 1.27 million tons in China. As China's bisphenol A downstream products, such as epoxy resin and polycarbonate, continue to grow in the fields of electronics, building materials, automobile industry, communications, and computers, the demand for bisphenol A in China will increase drastically. It is expected that in the next few years, bisphenol A will become one of the key varieties of downstream acetone products in China. The MIBK market also has great potential for development. At present, the apparent consumption of MIBK in China is about 40,000 tons/year, and the import volume in 2005 reached 38,700 tons, almost totally dependent on imports. In the future, as the new MIBK device is put into operation, the consumption of acetone in MIBK will increase.

In recent years, the continuous development of China's methyl methacrylate (MMA), coatings, and bisphenol A industries has driven the continuous increase in acetone consumption. In 1996, the apparent consumption of acetone in China was 157,700 tons. In 2001, it reached 296,700 tons, and in 2005 it increased to 617,000 tons. The average annual growth rate of apparent consumption from 2000 to 2005 was about 22.64%, and the self-sufficiency rate of products dropped from 56.2% in 2000 to 45.4% in 2005. As production cannot meet domestic demand, our country has to import large quantities every year. According to the China Epoxy Resin Industry Association, China imported 1.014 million tons of acetone in 1996; it reached 254,300 tons in 2004, which accounted for approximately 50.78% of the total domestic consumption; it further increased to 337,400 tons in 2005, accounting for about the total domestic consumption. 51.35%. The average annual growth rate of imports from 2000 to 2005 is about 27%.

It is estimated that by 2010, total acetone consumption in China will reach approximately 900,000 tons, and there will still be a large market gap at that time. Compared with the world average and the developed countries, China's current share of acetone for solvent consumption is too high, while China's BPA, MMA, and MIBK industries are not mature enough, and the consumption of acetone is not large. With the adjustment and development of the industrial structure, it is expected that in the next 5 to 10 years, the consumption structure of acetone in China will undergo major changes, and the proportion of products such as bisphenol A, MMA and MIBK to acetone consumption will increase significantly. Although acetone in China has not been fully self-sustained in recent years, due to the rapid growth of global acetone production capacity in recent years, and the newly-built expansion devices are almost all concentrated in Asia, new acetone products will inevitably enter the Chinese market and are therefore expected to appear this year. Excess supply. In particular, as China's acetone plant is being put into operation in succession, the domestic self-sufficiency rate will be greatly increased and the market competition will become more intense. As the largest increase in the acetone market demand in recent years has come from the field of bisphenol A and its derivatives, the domestic industry should vigorously develop this industry chain to cope with possible overheating.
