In January 2013, Bridgestone announced that it will spend 3.7 billion yen (approximately US$ 41 million) to build a new technology center in Thailand, which is expected to be completed in July this year.
The new technology center is located on the outskirts of Thailand's capital, Bangkok, and is wholly owned by Bridgestone's subsidiary, Bridgestone Asia Pacific (BSAP), which will be responsible for tire and product technology development, quality management and procurement. The total number of its employees is expected to reach about 100 people by 2015.
At present, Bridgestone’s Tire Technology R&D and quality management business in the Asia Pacific region is mainly responsible for the company’s technical center in Japan. After the completion of the new technology center, these businesses will be gradually transferred to Thailand. Bridgestone hopes to take this Further strengthen the business in the Asia Pacific region and establish a research and development framework to obtain more timely information on responding to local markets.
With the rapid growth and diversification of markets in Asia Pacific countries, Bridgestone firmly believes that through the support of the Thai Technology Center, it will respond more quickly to customer needs, while at the same time in terms of safety, environmental protection, and quality of output.
