At the 2012 modern coal chemical industry development seminar held recently, the China Coking Industry Association secretary-general Yang Wenxuan stated that the production capacity of methanol for coke oven gas exceeded 9 million tons, making the utilization of coke oven gas resources in China on the track of sound development.
China's huge coke production is accompanied by abundant coke oven gas, forming China's unique gas resource advantage. After conquering a series of problems such as the deep purification of synthetic gas, conversion and synthesis technology equipment and automation control, the methanol production technology from coke oven gas has matured. In 2011, 18 sets of methanol plants for coke oven gas production were put into operation, with a capacity of 2.44 million tons; this year it has reached a scale of more than 9 million tons, and the maximum single-unit capacity has reached 300,000 tons/year. At present, Sichuan Dagang and Heilongjiang Jianlong are demonstrating industrial production of converter gas and methanol from blast furnace gas.
With the breakthrough in the application of coke oven gas methanation technology, it is expected that coking oven gas natural gas projects in Qujing, Inner Mongolia, Erdos in Inner Mongolia, Pingdingshan in Henan, Tangshan in Hebei, Hancheng in Shaanxi and Shanxi will be put into production this year.
