According to reports, Nissan's luxury brand Infiniti is choosing the right time to launch a pure electric car in China according to the prospects of the Chinese market.
Sales slowdown in China Infiniti's sales growth in China slowed this year, rising 2% year-on-year in the first nine months, while its global sales rose 7%. During the same period, competitor Cadillac sales increased by 38%, and Ford's luxury car Lincoln sales increased by 191%. If Infiniti intends to achieve a 10% global luxury car market by 2020, it must improve its performance in China.
Infiniti Global President Roland Krueger said that next month, Infiniti will launch the QX30 SUV in China. In order to cater to China's small-displacement car purchase tax reduction policy, the car is equipped with an engine of 1.6 liters. This year, the QX30 SUV has boosted the Western European market by 155%, which is expected to boost sales in China this year. “The QX30 SUV is a small car that will bring new users to Infiniti. We believe that both global sales and sales in China will exceed last year.â€
At present, Infiniti has launched a total of nine models in China. In terms of models, there are 5 SUVs and 4 cars in 9 models; from the power point of view, 6 models are gasoline-powered and 3 models are hybrid.
Introducing pure electric vehicles to boost sales In addition to the upcoming QX30 SUV, Infiniti will launch a pure electric vehicle to increase sales.
Krueger said in an interview in Hong Kong last week, "When we envision electric vehicles, it is undoubtedly made for the Chinese market, and even China is the starting market. Now, we often discuss the best time to introduce electric vehicles."
Krueger pointed out that the Chinese government has vigorously built charging infrastructure and promoted the subsidy policy for electric vehicle purchase, which has made China replace the United States and become the world's largest electric vehicle market. Luxury brands, including Tesla and BMW, rely on China to increase sales of electric vehicles. As early as March 2012 at the New York Auto Show, Infiniti released the LE pure electric concept car, but failed to launch the production version, but focused on the development of hybrid vehicles.
Krueger said that once selected, Infiniti pure electric vehicles will "soon" to meet consumers, thanks to the support of the parent company Nissan and allies Renault.
