General Motors Develops New Displacement EcoTec Gasoline Engine

General Motors said recently that it will collaborate with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, Shanghai General Motors, and the Pan-Asian Automotive Technology Center to design and develop a new generation of EcoTec petrol engines with low emissions.

The new engine series will include three-cylinder and four-cylinder engine series, with a displacement of 1.0 to 1.5 litres, and will be put into production in the global market in the next decade. They will use lightweight design and advanced technology, such as direct injection technology in the engine cylinder, turbocharger technology, etc., to provide vehicles with excellent fuel economy and superior performance. This series of engines will further reduce noise and vibration.

General Motors also announced that it will develop the next generation of EN-V concept cars and pure electric Chevrolet SPARK mini cars to enrich the electric car camp. The EN-V is a lithium-ion battery-powered two-seater electric vehicle that uses electric drive, networking, and autonomous driving technology. The car was unveiled in Shanghai during the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The next-generation Chevrolet EN-V will be incorporated under the Chevrolet brand and add new features that customers need. The pure-electric Chevrolet SPARK will begin sales in the United States and global markets in 2013.
