According to foreign media reports, OSRAM has signed a follow-up cooperative development agreement with NanocoTechnology on the application of Nanoco quantum dots to general lighting. It is understood that Nanoco is a venture company listed on the London Alternative Investment Market (AIM) and spun off from the University of Manchester, UK, which produces cadmium-free quantum dots and other nanomaterials. As early as August 2011, Nanoco had already reached an agreement with OSRAM to improve LED lighting performance. Nanoco said that the current market mainly produces white light from blue LEDs, but the red light wavelength in the light produced by this method is weak, resulting in lack of warmth and unreal color. This defect limits the widespread adoption of LEDs in certain general lighting applications, and Nanoco quantum dots have the potential to overcome these problems. Nanoco said that considerable progress has been made in optimizing the combination of cadmium-free quantum dots and blue LEDs, effectively improving the color performance of LEDs.
