The United States AIAG recently announced that it has signed agreements with a number of automakers to use the AIAG public platform to “draw” maps of auto supply chains. With the support of GM, Chrysler Group and Toyota Motor, AIAG created the first web-based industry public database. This database is used to identify and record the flow of automotive products, parts and materials throughout the supply chain. The database is scheduled to be established in early 2014 and will initially be used to record supplier shipment data to North America.

AIAG CEO J.ScotSharland said: “In order to make the global supply chain more transparent and first in the history of the automotive industry, we united with the major car manufacturers to create a centralized supplier data platform. A big step forward, led by these three manufacturers, we issued a system that has received a federal border security initiative to transfer the command and control of data to suppliers.”

The first-generation AIAG data platform was named "Supplier Chain Security Reliability Evaluation" and will use the Customs Trade Anti-Terrorism Security (C-TPAT) certification program to record the transport data. C-TPAT is a federal government project established by the Department of Customs and Border Protection under the United States Department of Homeland Security. It allows companies to ship goods and materials shipped to the United States to accept low-risk security threat verification, so that the goods can quickly circulate at the US Customs checkpoint. Companies certified by C-TPAT have reduced the frequency of detection of trucks and containers by five times.
