Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that it has recalled 569,800 Accord and Fit vehicles in China because of the explosion hazard of the high-altitude airbags carried by the vehicles. At this point, the total number of vehicles recalled by Takada airbags exceeded 20 million.
Newly added 569,800 units in China On December 16, Honda Motor announced a recall plan to China's AQSIQ through two major joint ventures in China, Guangqi Honda and Dongfeng Honda, and announced that it will launch two recalls involving a total of 569,769 vehicles. car.
The first recall included two batches of vehicles, recalling from February 28, 2015, a total of 553,264 vehicles.
1. Guangqi Honda's 2003-2007 Accord intermediate-class sedan, totaling 527,136 units, was produced between May 17, 2002 and December 25, 2007.
2. Dongfeng Honda's 2013-2014 Ai Liwei MPV, a total of 26,128 vehicles, production time between June 4, 2012 and June 17, 2014.
The second recall was for Guangzhou Automobile Honda's 2003 Fit small sedan, totaling 16,505 units. The production time was between October 30, 2002 and December 30, 2003. The recall began on February 1, 2015.
Honda said that in the scope of the recall, some of the front airbags of the vehicle may be damaged when the airbag is deployed, and the casing fragments may fly out. It may injure passengers in the car and pose a safety hazard.
Misato Fukushima, a spokeswoman for the Honda Tokyo headquarters, announced that there have been no incidents of casualties in the vehicles recalled in China. Honda China spokesperson Zhu Linjie said that the reason for the recall was not until February next year because the current replacement of the airbag system was insufficient; the owner could continue to drive as usual without turning off the airbag function.
Although the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and Honda did not mention that the airbags were supplied by Takada, the foreign media pointed out that the defective airbags used in the recall of the vehicles were produced by Takada Corporation, which is now deeply trapped in the "airbag door."
So far, Japanese cars such as Toyota and Honda have recalled vehicles equipped with Takata's "problem airbags" in the Chinese market. However, the official website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has basically mentioned that the supplier is Takada.
Accumulating more than 20 million mark According to the statistics of Gasgoo and foreign media, plus the recall in China and the recent recalls, Honda has accumulated more than 13 million vehicles in the world due to Takata airbags; a total of 10 Mainstream automakers (Japanese Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, US GM, Ford, Chrysler, German BMW) are involved in the Takada airbag recall, and the total number of recalls has exceeded 20 million since 2008.
In addition, the current Misato Fukushima said that Honda will calculate how many cars still need to be recalled, and then recall in other markets outside China. This means that the scale of the Takata airbag recall will continue to expand.
Takada's defective airbags have caused thousands of car accidents, killing at least five people, four of them in the United States and one pregnant woman in Malaysia.
This year, it is called the “recall year” of the automobile industry. After the GM and other car companies were entangled in the “ignition switch door”, the Takata “airbag door” has a tendency to catch up. The number of vehicles involved in these two recalls has surpassed the Toyota "pedal door" in 2009 and is expected to be the two largest recalls in history.
