The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the sale of an HIV detector on the 3rd. Consumers are expected to buy the detector at a retailer's point-of-sale counter in October this year, and they can know if they have HIV for up to 40 minutes.
Olashur Technologies, a US biotechnology company, previously introduced an oral detector called "Ola fast." The user slides between the upper teeth and gums and lower teeth and gums with a special medical sponge to collect biological samples. The user then plugs the sponge into a small test device and waits 20 to 40 minutes to know if he or she is infected with HIV.
Some civil society groups advocating the promotion of HIV prevention knowledge believe that this detector can help people to know their own situation while protecting privacy.
